There are so many great activities and museums to visit in Council Bluffs, but our friends across the river just opened a new attraction you won’t want to miss! Next time you’re in CB, hop across the river and check out the Kiewit Luminarium. With more than 100 interactive displays investigating the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, there’s endless exploring and learning to do.
The science center is great for people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities to rekindle their curious spirit and learn something new. Take a deep dive into the fundamentals of physics, the environment, human anatomy, shapes, geometry, and engineering.
On Thursday evenings, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., they host a special Night Light event for adults only. You’ll get the chance to explore over 100 exhibits while sipping delicious cocktails. It’s perfect for date night, an evening out with friends, or a solo trip!
The Luminarium is also home to Fig, Omaha café. Their menu features freshly baked sourdough pastries, sandwiches, and salads, all with a fresh twist that everyone can enjoy. They are open daily, except Tuesdays, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The best way to enjoy this new attraction is to park at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park in Council Bluffs, check out our awesome public art, and walk across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge into Omaha. You’ll be able to greet OMAR on your journey, rent e-bikes, and stop by the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Visitor Center on your way to the Luminarium!
