Original Mormon Trail Settlement Site

Macedonia, IA

This 10,000-pound, red granite boulder commemorates Old Macedonia, where the Mormons approached the West Nishnabotna River crossing on June 12, 1846.

A collection of more than 300 mounted birds including many rare species and some over 100 years old are displayed. Known as one of the finest in the state, Dr. Stempel, a self-made authority in the area of ornithology, has left a legacy to future generations to observe species rapidly become endangered and/or extinct. Tours are available by appointment.
